Safety and Technology

Safety – It’s in our DNA

We look at safety for our staff, fellow road users, and your precious cargo, and in our pursuit of safety and our vision of zero accidents, we have standardized all of our vehicles with the FFG safety systems.

Our adoption of active safety initiatives on our vehicles are designed to avoid the errors that cause around 90% of all traffic accidents. So, we help our drivers see more. We keep them comfortable and focused. And we equip our trucks with systems and technology that take safety to the next level. Unfortunately, accidents do happen – so our passive safety initiatives focus on minimising the risk of injury when they do. As a result, we concentrate on having trucks that give the driver, passengers, and other road users as much protection as possible.

Emergency Brake System

A system that saves lives.

Using a camera and a radar, Collision Warning with Emergency Brake continuously monitors objects ahead. If a collision is imminent, a warning is issues, and if the driver fails to respond, the emergency brake is automatically activated.

Asset 1Badge

Camera and radar
The camera identifies distance and the type of object ahead of the truck. The radar measures how fast the object ahead of the truck is moving and the distance to the object. It is important that drivers can trust the system and don’t receive too many false alarms.

Asset 2Badge

Sensor fusion
Sensor fusion occurs when two sensors (radar and camera) provide input to a processor in order to better understand a situation. Sensors working together are crucial, as they help distinguish between real vehicles and objects that are not a real threat.

Asset 3Badge

Control unit
All information from the camera, radar, truck and driver behaviour is collected in the control unit. Software analyses this information and activates the warning system and the truck braking system if an accident is about to occur.

Asset 4Badge

Braking system
The braking system is activated when the driver has not reacted to the collision warnings. The vehicle first brakes lightly, the gearbox is decoupled and the truck slows down. The braking system is now active and if the danger is critical, the truck is braked with full force.

Adaptive Cruise Control with forward collision warning and Emergency braking

This intelligent driver support system uses radar to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and alert the driver to a collision risk, if a collision is imminent, a warning is issued, and if the driver fails to respond, the emergency brake is automatically activated.

Dynamic Steering with Lane Keeping Support

Dynamic Steering with Lane Keeping Assist uses a camera to monitor lane markings and the truck’s position in the lane. If the truck unintentionally crosses a lane marking, the system will automatically steer the truck back to the centre of the lane. The driver will also be alerted through a vibration in the steering wheel.
